Our schools – children’s events
Trout in the Classroom
Our ‘Trout in the Classroom’ Project began in 2012 and has been a great way for local schools to learn about the life cycle of a Brown Trout and the river ecosystem. We set up the tanks, deliver the eggs and offer support and advice – the schools do the rest! We release the young Trout in the spring and do activties by the riverside.
This year we have been working with several schools and we aim to expand next year.
If your school is interested in taking part in the project, please contact Lauren on lauren.king@ growing2gether.org
We also offer schools days out by the river where we have organised educational activities about the river ecosystem and wildlife. We can visit the school to talk about our project or they can come to us!
Starting in Spring 2016, we are running a Forest School near the river in Shaw twice a month. Our trained Forest Schools education officer teaches the children about wildlife and forest management through child-led play.
River Action Team (RAT Packs)
During the school holidays we run river dipping sessions with children at the Riverside Community Centre holiday club. They love to see what they can find in the river and identify it on one of our charts!
